Otis Williams Jr. is a man of many names. Some know him as Sun Valley Shawty or Bouldercrest Shawty. Others call him Texaco Shawty or Coogi Shawty. His friends affectionately call him “Juice”, but most of us know him by his chosen stage name, OJ Da Juiceman. Just a couple years back,  “Da Juiceman” was one of the hottest acts in Hip-Hop. Before Waka Flocka Flame emerged from the 1017 BrickSquad collective as Gucci Mane’s star protege, OJ Da Juiceman was making a name for himself on ATL’s underground scene, with two XXL covers in a years time and high profile features with artists as varied as Jadakiss and Mariah Carey. At one point it even seemed as if OJ’s star was starting to eclipse Gucci’s. But then something happened.

A quiet rift had opened up in the BrickSquad camp (perhaps due to the fact OJ had started his own label & is signed to Asylum through his own 32 Entertainment)  and with Flocka rise in popularity (and stature within the BrickSquad Mafia’s hierarchy) it seemed like the days of seeing the whole squad together were in the past. OJ’s buzz begin to dry up & his “official” album (2009’s The Otha Side Of The Trap was a collection of mixtape songs & considered as a precursor to his major label debut, The Otis Williams Jr. Story) looked to be stuck in label limbo but in recent months several new songs featuring Gucci, Waka & OJ have leaked. Even if his presence on recent BrickSquad projects (like the BrickSquad Mafia mixtape  & Gucci’s The Return Of Mr. Zone 6)  isn’t what it once was, it’s good to see the old gang, gold grills shining, serving all the J’s  just like the good old days…a whole two years ago, which in internet time might as well been a decade.

Earlier this month, OJ dropped off his latest batch on the ‘net, Culinary Art School 2, the follow up to his ’08 tape with DJ Drama & DJ Holiday and as big a fan as I am of “I’gnant Bamma Trap Shit” I figured I’d whip up a little companion piece for those who haven’t been following Da Juiceman as closely as you should’ve. Now before you all get to clowning my music tastes (and I know that Rolling Papers review doesn’t help much)  let me first say this. I know OJ Da Juiceman is a terrible rapper in the traditional sense. This is FACT. Most of his music revolves around selling coke, spending money on outlandish jewelry & Coogi sweatsuits occasionally stopping to smoke weed, dine on Shark meat and hit your main girl with the “Daddy Long” (His words, not mine) and stuffing every song with as many “Aye’s” and “OK’s” as humanly possible . But there’s an intangible quality there, the same quality that made guys like Eli Porter & 50 Tyson viral celebrities. No, I’m not talking Autism, I’m talking swag. Stoopid Fruity Swag. Paired with the production wizardry of producers like Zaytoven, FatBoi, and Drumma Boy, that makes for some dope music. So leave that Red Bull in the fridge andchuck that caramel macciato in the trash. I got your energy shot right here…

LP: that write up on Blu achieved what Nah could never do: actually make me a fan. I used to always see cats giving heavy cosigns to dude in the c- section, but the few songs of his that got posted where pretty terrible. . . which did NOT incline me to research anymore of Blu’s music. But HL’s article was short and to the point, and his best of collection definitely made me a believer.

  9. Maybe I’m alone in thinking this, but something I always wish NahRight had was previous/next post links at the bottom of the page as well. That way if you’re following comments, links close to the comment box prevent you from getting stuck in older posts… just an idea.

Because NahRight hasn’t changed it’s format in years, and this would be a way for GB$ to have a better system?

I’m almost certain that what he means is that there should be an arrow/ new thread indication at the bottom of the comments list. Because when you’re using the mobile version, and you’re reading 100 comments, you tend to miss the “next” arrow located at the very top of the comments list – as opposed to the comment box, which is located at the very bottom of all the comments.

^well, Nah uses that option wen the very same artist drop another song. There is a link that links you to the newest thread by that artist.

I’ll definately bring this up and search for a solution at the nest round table meeting.

    Thanks for that suggestion.

Straight up, man. Between this and that Blu article, somebody should be getting some type of marketing/ advertising/ promo money. Hell, I’m damn near tempted to give those Golf Wang guys another listen.
