Honestly, when news leaked a few days ago that these two are planning to drop an EP on June 14 (Bad Meets Evil), I was less than excited. I’m a fan of both rappers, but I’ve soured on collaborations a bit (too many of em these days) and this shit would have been a better idea in 2003.
Some call it a genius marketing strategy, others call it career suicide. I’m not quite sure what to call it myself, but it seems as if Lil’ B is serious about naming an upcoming project, “I’m Gay” and announced the title during a performance at this year’s Coachella music festival. This isn’t really anything new from Lil’ B. He’s called himself a pretty bitch and threatened to anally rape Kanye West, so should we really be surprised by these kinda shock tactics?
I fucks with some of Lil’ B’s music (I’m God, Wonton Soup & Pretty Boy immediately jump to mind) and I’ve been known to cook on occasion (I do a mean Farmer) but I think he’s really pushing it with this one. From 100 bitches on your dick to I’m Gay?
I’m at once fascinated yet dismissive of Lil’ B at the same time just because of these kinda flagrant ploys for attention. It’s entertaining as hell and I’m curious to see how the notoriously homophobic Hip-Hop nation reacts but let’s be all the way honest, you can’t expect anyone to take this kid or his music seriously when he does shit like this.
So we’re only a few days away from the release of Covert Coupe, and eachsong that has leaked has increased my expectations for this shit. I’m not normally a fan of Freddie, but he spazzed on this one. Alchemist doesn’t disappoint, and at this point, i almost feel stupid for wondering if his production style would mesh with Spitta’s laid back weed raps. They mesh. They mesh real well.
Pilot Talk 1 & 2 were both on my list of last year’s best, but i can’t help but wonder if Curren$y is gonna be able to have the same result with Covert Coupe without the help of Ski… Then again, this project is supposed to be produced entirely by the H.K.I.C, Alchemist, so I think it’s safe to say you can expect some crack capsules. After last week’s leak and now this one, I’m pretty much sold on this project. As much as it pains me to think of Dilla or RZA getting bumped, it seems like Alc is coming for one of those spots on the GOAT list. He’s maintaining his greatness, and the other top notch producers are either not here to keep up, or not dropping product consistently enough to keep up with Alan. This tape is gonna be a problem.
Where the fuck is Madvillainy 2? What the fuck?! I can look past the fact that you and Ghost never got around to finishing Swift and Changeable. That always seemed like a rap-nerd’s fantasy, and honestly it always had that “too good to be true” aura to it. I can look past the issue of you not showing up to your own shows. In a way, it’s what a true super villain would do. I don’t buy the whole bit about “DOOM being a character, and many actors can play that role”. Straight up, the shit is just funny to me. I just won’t ever pay money to see you in concert. I can even dismiss the fact that Born Like This was sub-par. You set the bar unbelievably high with the early part of your discography, so I’ll give you a pass on that one, even though it hurt my soul to not be able to give a DOOM album constant repeat spins like i was able to do with your previous work.
