Curren$y X Freddie Gibbs – “Scottie Pippen”

So we’re only a few days away from the release of Covert Coupe, and each song that has leaked has increased my expectations for this shit. I’m not normally a fan of Freddie, but he spazzed on this one. Alchemist doesn’t disappoint, and at this point, i almost feel stupid for wondering if his production style would mesh with Spitta’s laid back weed raps. They mesh. They mesh real well.

Curren$y -“Full Metal” (prod. by Alchemist)

Pilot Talk 1 & 2 were both on my list of last year’s best, but i can’t help but wonder if Curren$y is gonna be able to have the same result with Covert Coupe without the help of Ski… Then again, this project is supposed to be produced entirely by the H.K.I.C, Alchemist,  so I think it’s safe to say you can expect some crack capsules. After last week’s leak and now this one, I’m pretty much sold on this project. As much as it pains me to think of Dilla or RZA getting bumped, it seems like Alc is coming for one of those spots on the GOAT list. He’s maintaining his greatness, and the other top notch producers are either not here to keep up, or not dropping product consistently enough to keep up with Alan. This tape is gonna be a problem.

Curren$y x Alchemist- Ventilation

Covert Coup Artwork

Twitter leak from Currensy. First song off Covert Coup.

Point Blank: Alan the Chemist is a monster on the boards. The fact they are about to give something this level of quality for FREE should be an excellent signal for all Freddie Gibbs fans and Mobb Deep fans, as both parties are much better rappers, and I am anticipating much better than what Currensy will bring to the table.

Be clear tho, Currensy got kinda busy on this. I wasn’t too impressed with Pilot Talk 1 or 2, but I am excited to hear this, as the last full length Alchemist project was the Gangrene EP w/ Oh No, and I’ve yet to find a rapper I couldn’t enjoy over an Alchemist beat.

DOWNLOAD: Mobb Deep & Nas – “Dog Shit”

As my esteemed colleague Deen reminded us last week, it’s been nearly seven years since the last official collaboration between Nas, Mobb Deep, and The Alchemist. Did the Queensbridge (and Beverly Hills) quartet bring the Uzi in the army jacket lining, or buckle under pressure of unrealistic expectations? The G.B.M. alumni provide their uniquely bias opinions, as well as measure the song’s worth using a five unit rating system. Let the games begin.

Anticipation…

Pawse.

Nope. This isn’t about the M.O.P. or Carly Simon (or Les McCann?) songs (all awesome, but Carly Simon wins that battle). It’s more about the twin concepts of expectation and excitement, both of which are apt at the moment, given the impending launch of a new home for the crew, GeorgeBushMoney and Dog Shit, a new track from Mobb Deep featuring Nas and co-produced by The Alchemist and Havoc.
